LESSON 2: Caring for an orphaned joey

and using ICT

Task 2.1

Next lesson, everyone will choose an orphaned “joey” to save (from generating your joey software).  Your task will be to determine a feeding program for your orphaned joey.  This lesson your class will create the necessary graphs and posters so that you can determine the species and age of the joey you will rescue. As a class you will develop a step by step process for determining a feeding program for an orphaned joey. Your teacher will now provide you the species name you will be working with.  The table of data for you species is in Growth Charts. Record this process in your Record Booklet as you go.

What do you need to consider if you are to save a young joey?

Task 2.2

You will now generate graphs for your species from the table of data in Growth Charts for other pupils to use when they are rescuing joeys.  In your Record Booklet, explain why a graph will be easier to use than a table

Task 2.3

Collect some information about the species of joey whose data you have graphed. Try to find out something about feeding, breeding, habitat and size of this type of joey (kangaroo). You can use the internet, library books or your general knowledge to help you.
