Simulating random variations software
Note: This is the old, Flash-based version of the software. Modern web browsers are dropping support for Flash. We recommend that you use the new, HTML5 version if possible. The new version will run on most modern computers and mobile devices.
Used in stage 4 of the case study - see the Teacher's guide for instructions.
This version of the software runs in a web browser and is suitable for most types of computer. You need the Flash Player (version 8 or later) plug-in installed - you can download the latest version of this from www.adobe.com.
Installing on other computers
The following options allow you to install this software on other computers to run without the Bowland DVD or access to the web. They only include the software and the "Using the software" guide and are useful for installing the software on pupils' computers.
- Installer for Windows PCs (risk_pc.msi)
Run this to install the software to your hard drive and add it to the Start menu.
(Flash Player not needed) - Applications for Mac OS X (risk_mac.dmg)
Open this file, then copy the contents wherever you want them.
(Flash Player not needed) - Run in a web browser (risk_browser.zip)
Requires a web browser and Flash Player 8 or later (available from www.adobe.com).
This version should run on any computer which supports Flash. Just copy these files where you want them.
Note 1: If you are using Internet Explorer, you may see a warning the first time you use the software - if so, you should click on the information bar that appears at the top of the screen and choose to “allow blocked content”.
Note 2: You may be reading this page online from a website - if so, this is a convenient way to run the software and allows pupils to access the software for homework. However, unless you are very confident about the speed and reliability of your school's internet connection we recommend using one of the options above to install the software to your local hard drives before planning a lesson.
